1) One of science’s brightest stars, American Astrophysicist, and science communicator Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson will give a multimedia presentation at the Benedum Center tonight. Dr. Tyson graduated from the Bronx High School of Science then continued on to earn his BA in Physics from Harvard and his PhD in Astrophysics from Columbia. His professional research interests are diverse and include star formation, exploding stars, dwarf galaxies, and the structure of our Milky Way. As executive editor and on camera host & narrator for “Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey,” the 21st century reboot of Carl Sagan’s landmark television series. Dr. Tyson’s work on the show helped “Cosmos” garner 13 Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Documentary. Dr. Tyson is the recipient of 18 honorary doctorates and the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal, the highest award given by NASA to a non-government citizen. He is also the fifth head of the world-renowned Hayden Planetarium in New York City and the first occupant of its Frederick P. Rose Directorship. Additionally Dr. Tyson is a research associate of the Department of Astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural History. 2) Our Buccos take on the Cincinnati Reds that is special for a few reasons. One is that it’s Military Night, the Pirates will don their camouflage uniforms as a tribute to our service men and women. Special honors, presentations, and festivities will also be part of the game. And if that’s not enough the first 20,000 fans will receive a Clint Hurdle Gnome. 7:05 p.m. PNC Park, 115 Federal St., North Shore.
3) Burroughs: The Movie – The 1983 documentary, now digitally restored, about notorious Beat writer William S. Burroughs who, among many other things, wrote Naked Lunch, was a heroin addict and accidentally shot and killed his second wife. The film was made with Burroughs cooperation and features interviews with Lucien Carr, Jackie Curtis, Allen Ginsberg and Patti Smith. 5:10 p.m. Row House Cinema, 4115 Butler St., Lawrenceville.
