1) One of the country’s biggest comic cons is occurring this weekend at the Monroeville Convention Center. The Steel City Con features 750 vendor tables, an artist alley, celebrity guests, celebrity Q & A’s, panels, celebrity photo ops, and the Artist Charity Quick Sketch. And if that’s not enough you can also take part in the Steel City Con’s cosplay, trivia contest and costume contests. Celebrities scheduled to appear include: Ron Perlman, Kathleen Turner, Michael Nesmith, Tim Mattheson, Catherine Bach, Katie Forbes, Daphne Zuniga, and even Chris Kattan! Runs through Sunday. 209 Mall Blvd., Monroeville.
2) Clear out in deep space, light years away, on the far side of the musical continuum, Pittsburgh-based electronic band Black Moth Super Rainbow grooves and rages into the night. The band is led by frontman Tobacco. This year’s Panic Blooms is the group’s latest studio album. “Mr No One” is the album’s excellent closer. See their homecoming at Mr. Smalls Theatre. The Stargazer Lilies and Air Credits open. 8 p.m. 400 Lincoln Ave., Millvale. (EC, CM)

3) There’s a cool festival in Market Square today and tomorrow and it focuses on the great combination of ice cream and music. The DreamOn Fest website says “The 5th anniversary DreamOn Festival spotlights the city’s vibrant diversity and the best of Pittsburgh’s homegrown artistic talent.” In addition to plenty of Ice cream being scooped, attendees can jam to many local bands including: The Freedom Band, Lyndsey Smith & The Soul Distribution, Joy Ike, Funky Fly Project, DJ Selecta, and Krunk Movement. There’s even workouts and yoga by the YMCA. Free. Noon -9 p.m. both days. Presented by Omicelo Cares.
