The new Allegheny Overlook Pop-Up Park, the creative project of the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, has been a smashing success this summer. Now there’s even a very appropriate play that is being produced in the park—Neil Simon’s Barefoot in the Park. Pittsburgh Public Theater was scheduled to run the play last year, but had to cancel due to covid-19. Now they will be staging the classic comedy outdoors in a beautiful location along the Allegheny River. The story is an humorous examination of whether opposites attract, and can last in a new marriage. The Public’s cast includes: Jeff Howell as Victor Velasco, Chris Laitta as Mother, Connor McCanlus as Telephone Repair Man, Joe McGranaghan as Paul, Jaime Slavinsky as Corie, Jason Shavers as Host and Narrator, and featuring music from Doug Levine. It is directed by Marya Sea Kaminski and runs Tuesday, August 3 through Sunday, August 7. Barefoot in the Park at Allegheny Overlook is such a great idea it is sold-out. Hopefully, they will add additional performances.
