Merrily We Roll Along chronicles several decades in the entertainment industry. The musical is a semi-autobiography of Stephen Sondheim and examines the high price of success in relation to friendships. In this case between a composer and his two lifelong friends, a writer and lyricist/playwright. Merrily We Roll Along features some of Sondheim’s most popular and personal songs including “Old Friends,” “Not A Day Goes By,” and “Our Time.” The show ran on Broadway when it first opened in 1981 and later in London’s West End. The play shows the importance of staying true to one’s ideals when working towards a dream. The legendary Hal Prince directed the Broadway production and Daina Michelle Griffith directs the musical for Front Porch Theatricals. Choreography is by Alex Manalo with music direction by Douglas Levine. Merrily We Roll Along continues through August 27 at New Hazlett Theater. 8 p.m. 6 Allegheny Square, North Side.
