Valerie June in Concert at Carnegie of Homestead Music Hall; Club Cafe Hosts Ocie Elliott (Tues., 11/14/23)

1) Tennessee-born Valerie June got a good musical break when she appeared as a featured artist on MTV’s online series “$5 Cover,” which followed the lives of Memphis musicians and their struggle to survive while chasing their musical dreams. The following year she recorded the EP, Valerie June and the Tennessee Express, a collaboration with Old Crow Medicine Show. Her sound is influenced by folk, blues, Appalachian, gospel, soul, country, and bluegrass. The singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist has gone on to record five albums, the latest being 2021’s The Moon and Stars: Prescriptions for Dreamers. 2) Canadian indy folk duo Ocie Elliott writes songs that are very comfortable, like your favorite sweater. Their tunes have been described as  “a mix of memories, experiences, and emotions in the dusty acoustic guitars, sparse production, and graceful harmonies between Jon Middleton and Sierra Lundy.” The Victoria, B.C.-based duo came on the scene in 2017 with an EP. They have continued to rise since then. Ocie Elliott has garnered hundreds of millions of streams and have seen their songs featured several times in Grey’s Anatomy, in addition to placements on “New Amsterdam,” Netflix’s “Sweet Magnolias,” and more. Ocie Elliott has played countless headline shows and shared stages with Joshua Radin, Sons of The East, Kim Churchill, and Hollow Coves.
