Almost any Agatha Christie fan will tell you that you shouldn’t miss a chance to see Witness for the Prosecution live on stage. The play, which Christie adapted from one of her short stories, is a richly developed, dark-comic courtroom drama. It premiered to much acclaim in 1953 and the 1957 movie, with Marlene Dietrich and Charles Laughton, remains a classic. A man is accused of murdering a wealthy widow to reap the money from her will. He has an alibi. But the person he relies upon for the alibi turns up, instead, as a witness for the prosecution—and more twists and surprises lie ahead. Prime Stage Theatre is presenting the play with a cast of 14. Director Ponny Conomos Jahn heads a production aimed at combining historical rigor and theatrical vigor. The set design is arranged to make you feel right there in the courtroom. Just remember that you must solemnly swear never to reveal the ending. See Prime Stage’s Witness for the Prosecution at the New Hazlett. 7:30 p.m. 6 Allegheny Square East, North Side. (M.V.)
