Heinz Field Kick Off Rib Festival Begins; Little Lake Staging ‘A Masterpiece of Comic …Timing’ (Thurs., 8/31/17)

1) The Heinz Field Kick Off and Rib Festival is an end of the summer tradition. The festival features some of America’s top rib vendors reflecting the nation’s diverse barbecue tastes. Awards are given out to top vendors each year in categories according to expert judges and attendees. Adding great music to tasty ribs and cold beverages makes a perfect trifecta. Entertainment highlights include: Fight Night with USA Boxing (Thurs.); The Clarks and Bastard Bearded Irishmen (Fri.); Pitt vs. Youngstown State football (Sat.), Drake White and The Big Fire and Midland (Sun.); Locash and Bindley Hardware Co. (Mon.)  Free admission to Rib Fest. Heinz Field, Continues through September 4. 100 Art Rooney Ave., North Shore. (RH)

2) It has been said that “Timing is everything” and “Time is Money.” Both of those sayings are front and center in A Masterpiece of Comic…Timing. Whiz-kid Nebraska Jones’s first comedy play was a big hit. New York producer Jerry Cobb was so impressed that he’s invested his life savings in the new play that Jones is writing. Cobb even flies Jones to his Arizona home. And there lies the rub as Jones has come down with a bad case of the blues. He’s not eating or writing, but he is drinking. And he has a taste for Cobb’s expensive bourbon. To get the project moving again, they hire an erratic assistant and a Hollywood starlet, both of whom ratchet up the laughs. 8 p.m. Performances through September 16. Recommended for ages 15 and older. 500 Lakeside Dr. South, Cannonsburg. (RH)
