Lorelei, like the mythical German siren for which the restaurant is named, is tough to resist. It serves imported lagers, wine, Alpine cocktails, and house-made food, such as pretzels, sausage sandwiches, and cake. “In the craft beer resurgence, the lager has largely been left behind,” Peter Kurzweg, co-owner and beer director, said. Although Lorelei initially specialized in lagers from Germany and the Czech Republic, it now sells a variety of local, national, and international brews. It opened Friday, July 27, 2018 in the Werner Building, partly where The Livermore, a cocktail bar, used to be. Independent Hospitality Group kept the old Livermore space as a cocktail bar and turned the adjacent room into a beer hall. See our full story. The group also owns Independent Brewing Company and Hidden Harbor. 124 South Highland Ave., East Liberty. (CM)
