Pittsburgh’s Juneteenth Celebration Kicks Off with Morris Day and the Time at Mellon Park (Thurs., 6/19/25)
Juneteenth celebrates a great occasion, it marks the historic occasion that the news that slavery had finally ended reached slaves in Texas after the Civil War had ended in 1865. The WPA Juneteenth & Black Music Festival is produced by Pittsburgher B Marshall of the Stop the Violence. It is reportedly the largest Juneteenth Celebration in the nation. Several of the hallmarks of this festival are top-notch soul and hip-hop acts, African American cultural events, fun activities, and vendors who are Black owned businesses. Performing this evening at Mellon Park are the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, 702, and headliner Morris Day and the Time. Juneteenth festivities continue through Sunday. Friday’s headliner is Dru Hill, Donell Jones has top billing on Saturday. Additionally, there’s a Grand Jubilee Parade Downtown Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fifth and Penn Avenues, Shadyside.
