Tonight’s 55th Annual Light Up Night is the official kick off to Pittsburgh’s holiday season—even if some national retailers started the holiday season the day after Halloween. Highlights include several tree-lighting ceremonies, ice skating at PPG Plaza, Fireworks (Warhol Bridge, 9:38 p.m.), free horse-drawn carriage rides (Fourth Ave.), 6 – 9 p.m.), and several Santa appearances. There’s also top-notch local entertainment featuring Beauty Slap, Jeff Jimerson and Airborne, The Stickers, Nomad, MCG Jazz All Stars with guest vocalist Tania Grubbs and Dane Vannatter, Joe Grushecky and the Houserckers, and
The world-renowned Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will dazzle the crowd tonight with an outdoor show at Hartwood Acres as part of the Allegheny County Summer Concert Series. This free concert will include music by Copland, Bernstein, and Tchaikovsky with Fawsi Haimor conducting the orchestra. Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy a night of classical music under the stars. 8 p.m. 200 Hartwood Acres, Hampton and Indiana townships.

The Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival continues today. The festival features 10 days of free art and music shows! There’s also theater productions and hands-on arts activities for kids. Don’t forget the festival food including gyros, Italian sausage sandwiches, grilled chicken kebabs, funnel cakes and plenty of deep-fried food favorites. Tonight’s featured musical act at the Dollar Bank Stage is the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra with Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artists. Wow.
