Mark C Thompson Creates and Stars in fireWALL’s ‘Kimono’; Devils vs. Pens (Thurs., 3/24/16)

1) There can be no doubt that Mark C Thompson is one of Pittsburgh’s living artistic treasures. For many years, Thompson has worn many hats—or perhaps more accurately, many tights—as a virtuosic mime, dancer, actor, and choreographer. The common denominator in all his work is physical movement that blows you away, sometimes subtly and sometimes spectacularly. Most recently Thompson has created, and is appearing in, the feature-length ensemble movement piece Kimono. This project for Carnegie’s fireWALL Dance Theater explores themes of predator and victim in today’s oft-violent society. Running through the piece is a narrative of a man and woman striving to rise above the brutality, transforming it to visions of beauty. 8 p.m. Performances through Saturday. At Carnegie Stage, 25 W. 2) The Pens face off against the New Jersey Devils in a 7 p.m. game at Consol Energy Center. The Penguins have been rallying around Sidney Crosby, skating fast and hitting hard to make up for the loss of Evgeni Malkin for several more weeks. Next up for the team is an away game Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings. 1001 Fifth Ave., Uptown.

3) Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Oakland is offering free admission every Thursday evening in March thanks to The Jack Buncher Foundation. Enjoy exhibits about different cultures, animals, dinosaurs, minerals, nature and ancient Egypt, etc. 3 – 8 p.m. 4400 Forbes Ave.
