1) Thrival Music is part of the larger Thrival Festival, where the name of the game is capitalist enterprise. Local startup/innovation incubator Ascender powers the festival, a rich brew of entrepreneurship, empowerment, and culture. The music portion runs Fri., Sept. 29, and Sat., Sept. 30, at the Carrie Furnace, a pre-World War I iron plant turned National Historic Landmark. The schedule includes local and national acts. Logic, a rapper who had his first No. 1 album this year with Everybody, headlines the first day. Pittsburgh-based Wiz Khalifa headlines day two. The music video for his song “See You Again” (featuring Charlie Puth), from the Furious 7 soundtrack, was briefly the most viewed video on YouTube when it surpassed “Gangnam Style” in July. Also performing are Irish indie-rockers Two Door Cinema Club, Detroit-based DJ and saxophonist Griz, Pittsburgh instrumentalists The Garment District, soul rockers Rachel B with little good bad (+ -), and many more. Little good bad (+-) just released a new single “”A Little Rain” on September 25. Check Thrival’s website for all acts and event times. Carrie Furnace Boulevard, Rankin. (CM)
2) Texture Contemporary Ballet is a company that does what the name says: contemporary dance grounded in classical ballet discipline and techniques. Typical shows consist of several pieces in a range of styles. Past performances have included dances set to songs by Adele and to live cello-rock music by the ensemble Cello Fury, as well as a dance choreographed by a hip-hop artist and another that mixed ballet with tango. So, what will Texture do next? We’re not sure, but the company’s new production is called Boundless. Continues through October 1.New Hazlett Theater, 6 Allegheny Square East, North Side. (MV)
