Dave Matthews Band Plays PPG; Palace Theatre Hosts Jay Leno; Texture Contemporary Ballet Choreography Project (Fri., 11/15/24)

1) Fresh off their recent induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Dave Matthews Band comes to Pittsburgh. “Ants Marching” or “Gravedigger?” “Crash Into Me” or “Crush?” So go the speculations as to what Dave and his bandmates will put on the setlist. Formed in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1991, the group soon established itself as a premier live act. Their mix of rock, jam, and jazz has moved hearts and feet across generations, drawing legions of loyal fans. According to the Pollstar data service, DMB ranks second only to U2 in number of concert tickets sold worldwide over the past 40 years. They’re also exceptional in the studio with 10 studio albums released, seven of which have debuted at number one. Their newest is last year’s Walk Around the Moon. One of their biggest hits, “Crash Into Me,” was the pillar of the throwback soundtrack to 2017’s critically acclaimed movie Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig’s solo directorial debut. Catch the Dave Matthews Band at PPG Paints Arena. 7:30 p.m. 1001 Fifth Ave., Uptown. (C.M., M.V.)

2) Tonight at Greensburg’s Palace Theatre is former  NBC “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” host, Jay Leno. Leno is definitely enjoying his retirement as he has a vast classic car collection to keep him hopping. Leno currently produces and is host of the CNBC primetime series “Jay Leno’s Garage” now in its seventh season. He still performs stand up across the nation. 7:30 p.m. 21 W. Otterman St.

3) Texture Contemporary Ballet is a Pittsburgh-based company whose name says it all. Founded to explore the possibilities of merging experimental modern dance with classical ballet, Texture now presents an evening of eight new short dances by different choreographers. If you are a fan of the company you’ll know to expect the unexpected. Texture has created dances set to music by artists like the prog-rock quartet Cello Fury, and during the pandemic year of 2020, Texture released a creepy-but-jaunty outdoor dance video for Halloween. This year, in a show billed as the Texture Choreography Project 2024, you get to see eight unexpected dances.  Guest choreographers are Theodore Alexander, Anthony Alterio, Irinia B Garcia, Brittany A. Nettles, Haley Nolan, Anna Caison Roguski, JoAnna Schmitt, and Deanna Stanton. Also contributing choreography are Alan Obuzor, Texture’s artistic director, and Texture resident dancers Madeline Kendall Schreiber and Jillian Sinko. See this unusual dance production at 8 p.m. in the Greer Cabaret Theater, 655 Penn Ave., Cultural District. (M.V.)
