Three Rivers Film Festival Opens with ‘Clemente’ Doc at August Wilson African American Cultural Center (Wed., 11/13/24)

The 2024 edition of the Three Rivers Film Festival kicks off this evening with a highly anticipated film, Clemente. For an extra fee you can also attend an Opening Night party after the film. Info for the film states, “Executive produced by LeBron James and Richard Linklater, this 2024 SXSW Audience Award-winning documentary explores the life and career of beloved Pittsburgh Pirates legend, Roberto Clemente. Emotional interviews with those who knew him best, including Steve Blass and others from the ’71 Pirates team, Michael Keaton, Bob Costas, Yadier Molina, and Rita Moreno further enrich this glimpse into Clemente’s life.”

Altogether the Festival includes an amazing variety of 21 indie feature films from countries around the world. They’re all new or very recent, and they are scheduled for various dates and times through November 20 at three in-person locations: the city’s Harris Theater, The Lindsay Theater in Sewickley, and the August Wilson African American Cultural Center. There’s a home-viewing option as well. The festival also features: 10 blocks of short films at the Harris Theater for Pittsburgh Shorts, virtual film offerings for folks to fest from home, free parking for all downtown screenings, a Filmmaker Conference with award-winning producer Christine Vachon (Past Lives, May December), and a celebration of screenwriting with script readings featuring PGH’s best actors. Between in-person films and streaming, choices and ticketing options abound, so visit the Festival on the web and get rolling. The Three Rivers Film Festival is produced by the nonprofit Film Pittsburgh. But let’s start from the start: Clemente screens tonight at 7 p.m. at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center. VIP starts at 6 p.m. 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. (M.V., R.H.)
