Altar Bar Raises Black Flag; Execs Got Talent at Improv (CPs Wed., 6/25/14)

1) Black Flag, the Hermosa Beach, Calif., punk band, rolls into the ‘Burgh for a show at Altar Bar. Formed in 1976 by guitarist Greg Ginn (the only continuous member), the band has had several breakups and reunions and was re-formed in January 2013. It is one of the seminal hardcore punk groups. The Los Angeles police department and Hollywood clubs reportedly blacklisted Black Flag because of the destructive nature of their fans. (Black Flag says it was the police who caused most of the problems.)  Their raw, thrashing hardcore sound with backing vocals is somewhat reminiscent of The Ramones and can be seen in the “Rise Above” video. Opening is Hor and Cinema Cinema. 8 p.m. 1620 Penn Ave., Strip District.

2) Executives Got Talent! is happening tonight at Pittsburgh Improv. Take seven nonprofit executives with a penchant for comedy and mix in headlining comedian Aaron Kleiber and you have what promises to be a big night of fun and fundraising. All proceeds benefit Every Child, Inc., which provides a host of services intended to develop and strengthen the relationships among children, adults, and families. 7 p.m. 166 E. Bridge St., The Waterfront, Homestead.

3) Check out the Bluegrass Jam at the Park House. The Shelf Life String Band hosts this weekly event. Relax and enjoy the music or join the jam. Either way, Yuengling pints are only $2 from 9 p.m. to midnight. Jam starts at 9 p.m. 403 E. Ohio St., North Side.

4) Cappy’s Café in Shadyside is holding its Team Trivia contest tonight with Trivia Master John. 9 – 11 p.m. Trivia night Yuengling draft special, $3 for a 20 oz. brew. 5431 Walnut St.
