Tenacious D, Led by Jack Black, at Stage AE (Cool Picks 3/5/13)

1) Tenacious D, a comedic rock ‘n roll band, fronted by actor/musician Jack Black, is going old school on us. Their current tour is Old School Acoustic Style. The fun is happening at Stage AE. Doors open 7 p.m. 400 North Shore Dr., North Shore.

2) Priscilla Queen of the Desert opens tonight. A heartfelt adventure tale of three close friends who take the road trip of a lifetime in a battered bus across the Australian Outback. It’s got great costumes and a soundtrack containing the dance hits “I Will Survive,” “It’s Raining Men,” and “Finally.” The show is part of the PNC Broadway Across America Series. Pre-show talk tonight is with theater critic, Chris Rawson, 6:30 p.m. Show starts 7:30 p.m. Benedum Center. 237 7th St. Cultural District.

3)The  Chamber Music Society of Pittsburgh presents Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s concertmaster, Noah Bendix-Balgley on violin with pianist David Allen Wehr, who holds the Jack W. Geltz Distinguished Piano Chair at Duquesne University. Concert starts 7:30 p.m. Carnegie Music Hall, 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland.

4) Shake off those winter blues by moving to the rhythms of Salsamba. The talented, Pittsburgh based Latin-American jazz band plays JazzLive at Theater Square’s Back Stage Bar. 5 p.m. No cover. 655 Penn Ave.,  Cultural District.
