1) Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are performing tonight at Stage AE. Potter is a multi-instrumental force, and her bold, soaring vocals have recently garnered the Indie rock band national attention. Potter says of the band’s songs, “You have to either want to dance to it or cry to it. But there’s also a feistiness to these songs that’s completely unapologetic.” 7 p.m doors open. 400 North Shore Drive, North Shore.

2) Calling all history, poetry, classical music, dance and theater buffs (did we miss anyone?): Don’t miss the free concert entitled And On This Day…at Heinz Memorial Chapel. The show is inspired by historic events that have occurred on January 31st throughout history. It will feature performances in chorus, mixed ensemble, poetry and dance. Hosts are WQED’s Rick Sebak and Classical QED’s Ted Sohier. Register for an optional, pre-concert dinner (6 p.m.) in the Gold Room at the University Club, featuring remarks from its directors. Concert, 7:30 p.m. 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland.

3) Get into the swing of things with Jitterbug Lessons (a total of 6) at Wilkins School Community Center. No experience or partner required, just bring your dancing shoes. 6:30 p.m. 7604 Charleston Ave., Regent Square.

4) Folk-pop artist Ellis Paul is playing Club Café. A critically acclaimed singer, songwriter, poet and troubadour, Paul is the recipient of 13 Boston Music Awards. 7 p.m. 56-58 South 12th St., South Side.
