1) The “material girl” Madonna takes the stage tonight at the Consol Energy Center. Her shows always entertain and contain a combination of great music and quirky outrageousness. Madonna rose to fame on songs like “Lucky Star,” “Like a Virgin,” “Vogue,” “Like a Prayer.” She is touring in support of her latest album MDNA. Opening is Paul Oakenfold. 8:30 p.m. Madonna 10 p.m. Consol Energy Center. Uptown.

2) Passion Pit is in concert at Stage AE. The band is named after the slang term for “drive-in” movie theaters, which, even as they approach extinction, are known as hot beds of teenage romance. Four of the five members of “Passion Pit” attended the famous Berklee College of Music in Boston. These electro-pop rockers were the musical act on Saturday Night Live’s October 13th show.  Special guests,Youngblood Hawke and Hollerado. Doors open 7 p.m., North Shore.

3) Contemporary jazz/gospel artist Alton Merrell and his group–Alton Merrell & Company–play music that he hopes will “minister love, healing, joy, deliverance and peace to people around the world.” Merrell has won several notable jazz and gospel awards, and plays in the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra. Alton Merrell & Company are in performance this evening as part of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust BNY Mellon’s JazzLive series. 5 p.m. No cover. Backstage Bar at Theatre Square. 655 Penn Ave., Downtown Cultural District.

4) The “Space Exchange ” jazz/funk/rock  fusion series at the Thunderbird Cafe features David Throckmorton. 9 p.m. No cover. 4023 Butler St., Lawrenceville.
