Umphrey’s McGee to Jam AE; Follow the Tubes to Jergel’s (CPs Fri. 10/25/13)

1) Progressive rock jam band Umphrey’s McGee, from the Fighting Irish town of South Bend, Indiana, is in concert at Stage AE tonight. Influenced by the likes of Yes, King Crimson, and Pink Floyd, their unique sound can be heard in the songs “Wizard Burial Ground” and “Mulches Odyssey.”  Opening is London Souls. Doors open 7 p.m. 400 North Shore Dr., North Shore.

2) San Francisco rockers The Tubes hit the charts (and MTV) in the 1980’s with the songs “She’s a Beauty” and “Talk to Ya Later.” Roll off Interstate 79 and you can hear them at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille in Warrendale.  9 p.m. 103 Slade Ln.

3) Comedian Carlos Mencia headlines the Pittsburgh Improv tonight through Sunday. A native of Honduras who grew up in LA, Mencia worked the comedy club  circuit hard, which lead to TV talk shows and comedy program appearances. His “Carlos Mencia: No Strings Attached” was the first Comedy Central special DVD to go Platinum. 8 and 10 p.m. 166 E. Bridge St., The Waterfront, Homestead.

4) “Beat It” over to Mr Smalls Funhouse where a super group of 21 local musicians presented by Touchfaster and The Ruckus Bros. will recreate the classic Michael Jackson album Thriller in its entirety, replete with a full dance crew, animation, and light show, as well as some prizes. 8 p.m. 400 Lincoln Ave., Millvale.

5) The Pens battle the New York Islanders tonight a the Consol Energy Center. 7 p.m. 1001 Fifth Ave. Uptown.
