Galactic Lands at Hartwood Acres (CP’s Sun. 8/11/13)

1) Get funky with New Orleans-based outfit Galactic at Hartwood Acres. Performing as part of the Allegheny County Summer Concert Series, Galactic supplies a sound comprising harps, horns, driving percussion, and searing keyboard leads. The result is spectacularly high energy and entertaining. Embodying the Mardi Gras spirit, Galactic is as much a party as a musical experience, so bring your dancing shoes and prepare to get down and dirty at this one. Free. 7:30 p.m. 200 Hartwood Acres, Hampton and Indiana townships.

2) This year’s Bach, Beethoven, and Brunch series concludes today at Mellon Park. A perfect way to jumpstart your Sunday, Bach, Beethoven, and Brunch features classical music courtesy of the East Winds Symphonic Band, ensuring that the event’s final installment will also be one of its finest. Formed in 1980, the East Winds Symphonic Band has performed across the tri-state area, earning an invite to the 30th Annual Convention of the Association of Concert Bands and a Sudler Silver Scroll in the process. Along with these refined classical tunes, The Bagel Factory is on site to satisfy your hunger pangs throughout the morning. Free. 10:30 a.m. Fifth and Shady avenues, Shadyside.

3) Mix up your Sunday routine at Schenley Park, where Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax will show at dusk. Flagstaff Hill, Schenley Park.

4) Join a chorus of cheers from rowdy soccer fans at Highmark Stadium, where the Pittsburgh Riverhounds take the field against the VSI Tampa Bay FC Flames.
