North Mississippi Allstars to Play Funhouse (CP’s Tues. 9/10/13)

1) The North Mississippi Allstars are a blues-rock outfit hailing from Hernando, Mississippi, featuring brothers Luther (guitar, vocals) and Cody Dickerson (drums, keyboards, and electric washboard–who knew!)) along with Chris Chew (electric bass guitar). They rose to success on songs that include “Shake ‘Em on Down,” and “My Troubled Blues.”The band has played with John Hiatt, John Medeski, and Robert Randolph and the Family Band. Opening is Lightnin’ Malcolm. 8 p.m. Mr.Smalls Funhouse, 400 Lincoln Ave., Millvale.

2) A new super group has formed, The Rides. The band is composed of two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Stephen Stills, five-time Grammy nominated singer/songwriter/guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and noted Chicago blues rock keyboardist Barry Goldberg. Providing a solid rhythm foundation are bassist Kevin McCormick and Shepherd’s drummer Chris Layton  who also played with Stevie Ray Vaughn.  Sounds like a great musical team! 8 p.m. Carnegie Library Music Hall, 510 E. 10th Ave., Munhall.

3) The Moth Story Slam is in Pittsburgh tonight at the Rex Theater with a show titled  OfficeThe Moth is a nationally acclaimed, Peabody award-winning organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. They present fascinating, true stories told in a compelling manner. 8 p.m. 1602 E. Carson St., South Side.
