Club Café Hosts Rhett Miller; Good Brother Earl Plays Jergel’s (CPs Thurs., 1/16/14)

1) Old 97’s lead vocalist and main songwriter Rhett Miller is a successful solo artist in his own right. Miller has released seven albums, including The Grand Theatre Volume One in 2010 and  The Grand Theatre Volume 2 the following year. He’s even appeared in an episode of  the TV show “30 Rock.” Special guest is  Trapper Schoepp. 8 p.m. Club Café, 56-58 S. 12th St., South Side.

2) Local rockers Good Brother Earl are warding off the winter chill with sets at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille tonight. They are currently working on a new album and will have a release date soon. 285 Northgate Dr., Warrendale.

4) The summer season has long been over, but you can still enjoy some great grilled meat and chicken. We have the place for you—Union Pig & Chicken. Chef Kevin Sousa’s barbecue and fried chicken restaurant and bar is serving up some delicious tender beef brisket along with ribs, chicken, mac and cheese, greens…and whoopie pies. Specials daily at 5 p.m. The East Liberty hot spot is open Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.; Friday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 1 a.m.;  and Sunday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. (for a hearty chicken and waffles brunch) and 3 – 9 p.m. (for regular service).  Their second-floor counterpart—Harvard and Highland—is open for cocktails until 1 a.m. weekdays, 2 a.m. Friday and  Saturday, and 11 p.m. Sunday.
