Cheap Trick on Stage AE (CP’s Wed. 8/21/13)

1) Quintessential 70’s band Cheap Trick is visiting the Burg tonight. They sang “Mommy’s alright, Daddy’s alright, they just seem a little weird, surrender…” for their big hit “Surrender.” Other highly successful songs are  “I want You to Want Me,” and “The Flame.” The band formed in Rockford, Illinois in 1973. Freddie Nelson will also be performing. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Stage AE, 400 North Shore Dr., North Shore.

2) Hot jazz tonight with Velvet Heart. Their  music will add another layer of deliciousness to the New Orleans cuisine at NOLA on the square in an 8 p.m. show. No cover. 24 Market Square, Downtown.

3) Tonight catch a flick at the Pittsburghplex. Watch Jack the Giant  Slayer at the West End Elliott Overlook (PG-13) as part of the Cinema in the Park series.  This 2013 film is an American movie that weaves the English fairy tales Jack and the Beanstalk and Jack The Giant Slayer. Watch the movie against the backdrop of a beautiful city. Dusk, free.

4) Don’t be a “hayseed.”  Get on over to Peter’s Pub for country music night with DJ Dave.   Check out their great specials: $5.50 fish bowls,  $7.50 Smirnoff fish bowls and $2 Yuengling bottles (10 p.m. – midnight); $5.50 Bud Lt. pitchers (all day, everyday);  and if you need some protein in the picture, $5 sandwiches ( 5 – 10 p.m.). 116 Oakland Ave., Oakland.
