Tyler Ward Performs at Altar Bar; Marlins vs. Pirates (CPs Wed., 8/6/14)

1) Tyler Ward, who attended the  U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School until he realized he didn’t like military discipline, began writing songs while a student at the University of Northern Colorado. After college, he continued to hone his singing/songwriting skills, which led to performances with the Jonas Brothers and The Fray. He’s had three headlining worldwide tours of his own and is currently touring in support of his latest album, Honestly. Opening are Brynn Elliott, My Silent Bravery, and Chelsea Summers. 7:30 p.m. The Altar Bar, 1630 Penn Ave., Strip District.

2) The Miami Marlins will be swimming upstream in their game against our battlin’ Buccos. 7:05 p.m. PNC Park, 115 Federal St., North Shore.

3) Right now, our “Southern” (PA) town of Pittsburgh is in the midst of a slack country music period, in between Jason Aldean’s performance last week and Toby Keith’s next week. What’s a country fan to do? Don’t be a “hayseed.” Get on over to Peter’s Pub for country music night with DJ JB. Check out their great specials: $5.50 fish bowls, $7.50 Smirnoff fish bowls, $2 Yuengling bottles (10 p.m. – midnight), and $5.50 Bud Lt. pitchers (7 p.m. to close). If you want to add some protein to the picture, try the $5 sandwiches ( 5 – 10 p.m.). Plus, unlike at Pittsburgh’s country concerts now, they’ll clean up and bag your trash. 116 Oakland Ave., Oakland.
