EQT 3 Rivers Regatta Launches Today; John Hiatt, Robert Cray Jam ‘Burgh (CPs Wed., 7/2/14)

1) America’s largest inland regatta, the 2014 EQT Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta, kicks off today along the banks of and on the Allegheny River near Point State Park. Attractions include one of the nation’s biggest boat races, the powerboat F-2 North American Championships; the K9 Crew, a “motley crew of talented mutts”; the Xpogo world championship series; the Anything That Floats Race; jet skiing, sailing, and crew racing; fireworks, food, and bands; Beach ‘Burg; Sandsational sand sculptures; a Kid’s Zone; and more. Hotel California, an Eagles tribute band, plays an 8:30 p.m. show. Today’s hours are noon until approximately 9:30 p.m. Free. Runs through July 4.

2) If you want to see John Hiatt play and properly preserve a “Perfectly Good Guitar,” tonight’s your night. He’ll be appearing with his band The Combo at Carnegie Library Music Hall. Also on the bill is five-time Grammy Award-winning, blues guitarist Robert Cray, who will strap on his axe and sing about a “Smoking Gun.” 7:30 p.m. 510 E. 10th St., Munhall.

3) The Pirates take on the Arizona Diamondbacks in a 7:05 p.m. game at PNC Park. 115 Federal St., North Shore.
