“Champions Make Their Own Luck.” Perhaps this slogan was never truer than for a business that started during a pandemic. Such is the case for Lucky Sign Spirits, a new distillery in Millvale and one which is forging ahead with sales of bottled liquor. The distillery opened in August 2020, and later that month, it unveiled T-shirts, designed by CommonWealth Press, with the slogan printed on them. The spirits include bottled Cardshark Bourbon Whiskey and Cardshark Rye Whiskey. (Cards and horseshoes remain sharp branding for Lucky Sign.) Other spirits include the London Dry Gin, Limoncello, rock & rye, vodka, Aquavit, and Raki. Christian Kahle and Matt Brudnok co-founded Lucky Sign. “We are putting flavor forward, and people really are responding to that,” Kahle said over the phone. “All of our spirits have a lot of character to do them, and that’s what we’re going for.”

Expect cordials, amaros, and some experimental spirits possibly in the future. Millvale already has two breweries: Grist House and Strange Roots. Lucky Sign Spirits adds a new addition to the craft scene in one of Allegheny County’s most diverse and robust neighborhoods: Millvale. 215 North Ave., Millvale. There’s also a Lucky Sign  Distillery, bar, and retail location at  50 Oak Road, Gibsonia.(C.M.)
