Roger Humphries Trio With Judi Figal Play Savoy; “A Most Violent Year,” “The Woman in Black 2” Screening (CPs Mon., 1/12/15)

1) Savoy Restaurant’s Savoy Jazz Mondays continues tonight with the Roger Humphries Trio featuring Judi Figal. Heat up with some great jazz. 6 – 10 p.m. No cover. 2623 Penn Ave., Strip District.

2) A Most Violent Year1981 is on record as being one of the most violent years in the history of New York City, which inspired writer/director J.C. Chandor to create this story about an immigrant family trying to build a business in a city in chaos. Chandor also is the writer/director of Margin Call, which was, in the opinion of yours truly, the best picture of 2011. Oscar Isaac, Jessica Chastain, Alessandro Nivola, and David Oyelowo star. Check Fandango for screens and times.

The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death—This film is a follow-up to a 2012 thriller of the same name, which starred Daniel Radcliffe as a Victorian lawyer gettin’ the bejesus scared out of him in a haunted house. It’s 40 year’s later in this release, and children evacuated during the London Blitz to that same house have, unfortunately, re-awakened the title character who, as we know from the first movie, isn’t someone you want to spend a weekend with. Check Fandango for screens and times.
