Van Gogh in Bloom at Phipps; Monday Night Fun at Homerun Harrys (Mon., 6/17/19)

1) Artist Vincent van Gogh inspired many, including the horticultural designers at Phipps Conservatory. Their Van Gogh in Bloom flower show recreates several of the famous artist’s most famous works through vibrant flowers and plants, trees, and specially created props. The artist’s works that have been transformed for the exhibit includes: “Starry Night,” “Sunflowers,” and “Wheat Field with Cypresses.” Beautiful in the daylight, as well as on Friday nights when the conservatory  is open until 10 p.m. Seeing Van Gogh in Bloom at night reveals the intricate interplay between light and shadow, highlighted by architectural lighting. Monday through Thursday and Saturday and Sunday, 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Fridays open until 10 p.m. This exhibit is part of the 2019 Summer Flower Show. One Schenley Park, Oakland.

2) Homerun Harrys is a happening haunt on Monday nights. The first fun activity on Mondays is happy hour which runs from 5-7 p.m., featuring $2 drinks and drafts, and a $2 appetizer menu (with drink purchase). From 7-10 p.m. it’s Fireball Night with Four Fireball shots and a pitcher of beer for $20. After those specials it will be fun to try to hit the dart board for the Dart Tournament from 10 p.m. to midnight. Beginning at 10 p.m. and going until Midnight is the main event: TV Trivia hosted by the extraordinary entertainer known as Zoo. There is cash and prizes for the winners and $2 drink specials for everyone. The sports bar and grill also has 26 flat screen TVs to see all the game action, pool tables, hand-tossed pizzas, and a broad menu of burgers, fries, hoagies, and sandwiches.
