White Sox vs. Pirates; Balcony Big Band at Jergel’s (Mon., 6/15/15)

1) The Pirates are in action today against the Chicago White Sox in a 7:05 p.m. game at PNC Park. There’s no bobbleheads, fireworks, or free T-shirts today, just good ol’ baseball interleague play, cold beer, peanuts, and crackerjack. And hopefully a win! 115 Federal St., North Shore.

2) The Balcony Big Band with a special guest is hitting only high notes in a Monday night performance at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille. The 18 member group makes a big, beautiful sound. 7 p.m. No cover. 285 Northgate Dr., Warrendale.

3) Spy — Melissa McCarthy is back on the big screen in a movie I could have sworn she was already in. But no, here she plays a milquetoast CIA analyst who has spent years supplying technical backup to spies in the field. When the star agent and love of her life Bradley Fine (Jude Law) disappears and his replacement is compromised, McCarthy is forced to go undercover to save the world from a nefarious global arms dealer (Rose Byrne). It sounds formulaic at best, but it does feature a very interesting cast: Allison Janney, Bobby Cannavale, Jason Statham (in a rare comedy role), and two of England’s hottest comedians, Peter Serafinowicz and the luminous Miranda Hart (currently playing “Chummy” in BBC’s “Call the Midwife.”) Spy is written and directed by Paul Feig, who also directed McCarthy in The Heat and Bridesmaids. Check Fandango for screens and times.
